About:

Collaborative process of two artists(Sunjoo Lee and Ko de Beer) and twelve students, in the topic of ‘Collaborating with Nature’ mediated by technology.

What happens when a bird migrates through human-made systems and spaces? How can we let nature use our technology? These are the questions that Spacemakers dealt with for the 5 months. The process resulted in an intense journey into translating movements of European Honey Buzzard #600 from Liberia to the Netherlands into five data-driven artworks.

  Youtube Migration: Buzzard 600
Following the path of the European Honey Buzzard, through a search algorithm using Youtube API.

The algorithm named ‘Buzzard-600’ written by Sunjoo Lee, goes through the geolocations of the migration route of the bird. For each location, it searches on Youtube the name of the place, and retrieves a list of videos as search result. Then the videos are streamed in the video installaion with the map.

  Branch IO
“ The birds took control over the keyboards. With the keyboards it can type in anything it wants to create. Endless things to create.

Branch IO is an interface for birds, for them to access the computer and the internet. The three touch sensitive branches are hanging in front of an interactive animation. When someone touches the branches, the animation reacts.
